Day 2: Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast, your Arem safari guide will pick you up from your accommodation. This morning, you'll embark on a journey to Tarangire National Park, which is approximately a two-and-a-half-hour drive away on well-maintained tarmac roads. The park derives its name from the Tarangire River, which flows through it. This river, often referred to as the 'river of warthogs', serves as the sole water source for wildlife in the region during the dry season. Tarangire is renowned for its elephant families, frequently observed gathering by the river. Additionally, sightings of giraffes, bushbucks, and hartebeests are common. These animals attract a variety of predators, including lions and leopards. Tarangire boasts more breeding bird species than any other location on the planet, and its landscape is dotted with massive and ancient Baobab trees, some of which are believed to have lived for over a thousand years.
